ClearVue Technologies Gains Approval for Innovative Solar Panels in Australia

Listed on the ASX, ClearVue Technologies, a specialist in solar glass and window solutions, has successfully secured approval for its first integrated solar panel for installation on rooftops across Australia. This announcement comes just as the federal subsidy scheme expands to encompass larger commercial and industrial projects.

On Friday, ClearVue revealed that its ClearVue-Helios range has been included on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved products list for solar panels. The range has successfully undergone tests in accordance with international design and safety standards, as well as meeting the CEC’s own consumer protection criteria.

Advanced Solar Solutions for Metal Roofs

The integrated, metal-backed modules from the ClearVue-Helios collection are specifically crafted to fit existing steel rooftops, featuring a sealed mounting system that acts like an additional roof for buildings, according to the company.

These panels can produce up to 220 watts (W) per square metre and reach an output of 600 W per panel. Each unit boasts a Class A fire rating, a 30-year performance guarantee, and a product warranty lasting 15 years.

Importance of CEC Listing and Market Impact

ClearVue emphasised the significance of its CEC listing, describing it as vital for establishing trust within the Australian solar sector. “It reassures specifiers, builders, and asset owners that the panel has been independently tested and confirmed for safety, durability, and suitability,” the company noted in their ASX announcement.

In a saturated market filled with various products, the independent verification acts as a crucial quality indicator for prospective clients.

ClearVue’s Growing Global Influence

Headquartered in Perth, ClearVue has gained recognition worldwide as a leader in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). Their innovative technology employs patented glass that not only transmits light but also generates electricity.

The company made a significant splash in global news throughout 2023 after completing its first order in the US, supplying technology worth $A250,000 to a greenhouse in California.

Following that, in early 2024, ClearVue secured its inaugural Australian commercial contract for an education and wellness centre associated with the Construction, Forestry, Maritime and Employees Union (CFMEU) in Melbourne.

Later in the year, they struck a deal for their technology to be integrated into the renowned Enex100 building in Perth, a contract which CEO Deli labelled a “pivotal moment” in the company’s history.

Additionally, last year, ClearVue landed a significant contract to provide clear solar glass for a high-rise building in Sydney, currently undergoing a $A308 million renovation, which will feature the new rooftop system.

Innovative Solutions and Future Prospects

ClearVue launched its next-generation rooftop solar panel last year, specifically engineered for metal roof applications. The design focuses on providing high energy efficiency and durability, while also functioning as a sealed second roof and creating an air gap that the company claims can help keep buildings up to 30% cooler.

In an Instagram update, ClearVue highlighted that the Helios panels could serve as a protective layer, potentially extending the lifespan of existing roofs while contributing to generating clean energy.

A lightweight aluminium option is also available, designed for low-load applications (weighing only 5kg/m²). However, it remains unclear whether this version has received CEC approval or if only the metal-backed model is endorsed.

A Significant Step Forward for ClearVue

ClearVue’s CEO and managing director, Doug Hunt, remarked on Friday that obtaining the CEC listing for the ClearVue-Helios range is a substantial and well-timed achievement. “We believe this enhances the commercial potential for ClearVue-Helios and provides customers with increased confidence in specifying our products,” Hunt stated.

He further acknowledged the government’s recent changes to incentives for commercial solar projects in Australia, which now allows upfront incentives for installations of up to 1 megawatt (MW), up from the previous limit of 100 kilowatts (kW).

This change is expected to significantly lower acquisition costs for commercial solar, making the achievement of certification particularly timely. These incentives are set to further decrease the acquisition cost for the entire range of ClearVue products, thereby improving financial returns for their customers.
