Taiwanese Energy Firm Partners with Enervest for Solar and Battery Projects in Australia
Enervest, an Australian developer focused on battery energy storage solutions, has secured a partnership with Taiwanese energy firm Billion Watts to develop a portfolio of projects across New South Wales and Victoria, featuring a combined capacity of 50 megawatts (MW) and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh).
This announcement was made on Wednesday, revealing that Billion Watts is the energy storage subsidiary of Taiwan’s Billion Electric Company, with both firms set to collaborate on a total of 10 sub-5MW projects strategically located near distribution networks in the two Australian states.
Project Details and Timeline
At this stage, it remains uncertain whether these initiatives will include both solar power and battery energy storage systems, or if they will solely consist of standalone battery projects. Renew Economy has reached out for further clarification and will provide updates as they become available.
Designed to enhance local grid stability and resilience in regional areas, these projects are anticipated to receive the necessary development approvals and connection offers by June 2027.
Revenue Potential and Market Appeal
Elaine Chen, director of Billion Watts, emphasised the financial potential of these assets, stating that they could open up multiple revenue streams including wholesale trading, energy arbitrage, and ancillary services, which are crucial for securing stable returns over the long term.
Chen also remarked on Australia’s appealing regulatory environment and consistent demand, asserting that collaborating with local partners would expedite their asset deployment and contribute to building a robust energy portfolio across regions.
This strategic alliance plays to the strengths of both companies, with Enervest taking charge of project development, while Billion Watts will offer capital and strategic assistance.
Enervest currently has 19 utility-scale battery energy storage projects at various planning and development stages, along with eight sub-5MW commercial and industrial solar and battery initiatives in its portfolio.
Billion Watts, noted for its expertise in renewable energy integration, has successfully executed over 1,800 solar projects, including PV inverter installations that exceed 532 MW, as well as energy storage ventures totalling more than 210 MW. Their Pixel View monitoring platform manages over 560 MW of capacity.
Strategic Insights from Enervest CEO
Enervest’s CEO, Ross Warby, shared that the collaboration with Billion Watts validates the strategic importance of Enervest’s project origination model and reflects a strong interest from external investors in their quality development pipeline.
“The move by Billion Watts into the Australian market shows increasing international investor interest in distributed energy assets,” commented Warby, adding that the joint venture allows for the measured scaling of Enervest’s sub-5 MW platform, concentrating on strategically valuable sites that yield benefits for distribution networks.
By focusing on the development of a portfolio across New South Wales and Victoria, both companies aim to establish a model for distributed energy storage that guarantees long-term reliability and benefits for local communities and network operators.
