Flow Power Launches New Solar and Battery Projects in South Australia

Flow Power, an Australian renewable energy generator and retailer, has successfully finalised the construction and commissioning of three solar and battery projects in South Australia. These initiatives feature advanced anti-hail photovoltaic modules and bespoke prefabricated power conversion components.

The new projects, located in Monarto, Naracoorte, and Coonawarra in the state’s southeastern region, each consist of a solar farm with a capacity of 6 to 7 megawatts (MW) alongside a 5 MW/15 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). All installations are connected to the existing infrastructure of 33kV SA Power Networks.

Innovative Approaches to Project Development

Flow Power has taken on the development and operational responsibilities for all three projects, which are expected to have a robust 30-year lifespan. The company has implemented several technological advancements aimed at enhancing the longevity and reliability of the projects.

“From utilising anti-hail modules and locally sourced steel to the deployment of custom prefabricated high-voltage and inverter kiosks, we’ve embraced innovative solutions throughout the process,” said John Maroney, the design manager at Flow Power.

“The successful delivery and commissioning by our in-house team illustrate the expertise we’ve developed and our enduring commitment to renewable energy in Australia,” he added.

New Energy Retail Offer for local Residents

In addition to these projects, Flow Power is set to introduce a tailored energy retail offering for the residents of Naracoorte and Coonawarra. This initiative is presented as a comprehensive renewable energy solution, spanning generation to usage.

Residents opting into this offer will enjoy a discount on their base energy rate, and they will have the opportunity to virtually connect their electricity consumption to a tangible project within their locality.

Currently, Flow Power operates a total of 85.3 MW comprising wind, solar, and hybrid assets across South Australia, contributing to the region’s renewable energy landscape and bolstering grid reliability.

Exciting Developments for Flow Power

“Integrating these new projects into our expanding portfolio in South Australia marks an exciting milestone for Flow Power,” expressed Byron Serjeantson, the company’s chief operating officer.

“We take pride in consistently delivering outstanding renewable energy projects, alongside customer solutions that facilitate the shift towards sustainable energy. Additionally, we are pleased to include community benefit initiatives and are one of the pioneers in the National Electricity Market to utilise Australian-made steel,” he concluded.
