Renewable energy retailer signs deal with small solar and battery hybrid to supply recycling facility

Flow Power Signs Renewable Energy Deal with Soilco for Recycling Facility

Flow Power Signs PPA to Supply Renewable Energy to Soilco

Flow Power, an Australian renewable energy firm, has announced that it has entered into a five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to provide firm electricity from its Cootamundra Energy Project located in New South Wales.

This is the first PPA signed for electricity derived from the facility since the installation of battery storage at the existing solar farm in 2025. Under this agreement, Flow Power will supply renewable energy to Soilco, a family-owned business that specialises in designing, constructing, and operating cutting-edge organics recycling facilities.

Details of the Cootamundra Energy Project

The Cootamundra Energy Project comprises a solar farm with a capacity of 5.8 megawatts (MW) and a newly installed battery storage system with an 8.1 megawatt-hour (MWh) capacity.

Soilco is optimistic that this partnership will lead to reduced costs and emissions, delivering financial stability while facilitating its ongoing operational growth and sustainability aims.

Collaboration with NSW Government Program

Soilco chose to collaborate with Flow Power after participating in the NSW government’s Sustainability Advantage program. During this initiative, the company worked alongside Presync to assess its baseline emissions, explore pathways to net zero, and develop a model to forecast electricity usage across its operations in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

This firm, which works with councils and commercial waste producers to prevent organic waste from ending up in landfills, anticipates that the PPA will help lower its electricity costs and decrease Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by around 10 percent.

Statements from Leadership

Alex Hatherly, CEO of the Soilco Group, commented, “As Soilco’s processing capacity and infrastructure have expanded, so too have our electricity needs. It was crucial for us to secure an energy solution that could support our operations and align with our sustainability goals.”

He continued, “With the backing of Sustainability Advantage and Presync, we gained a clearer insight into our current and future environmental impact. This boosted our confidence in pursuing a PPA that aligns with our long-term plans and aids in electrifying our processes.”

Jacob Mahoney, chief commercial officer at Flow Power, highlighted the trend of businesses seeking effective solutions to cut emissions. “Soilco exemplifies this shift. Its primary service aids councils and businesses in managing waste sustainably, and this agreement reinforces that goal by providing renewable electricity tailored to the needs of a growing organisation,” he noted.
