SwitchedOn Podcast: Renewables Transforming Agriculture’s Future
Climate change is already taking a toll on agriculture, with droughts, floods, and extreme weather events costing farmers significant amounts each year.
In response, a growing coalition of Australian farmers is taking proactive measures to combat climate change. This movement, known as Farmers for Climate Action, originated from a gathering of 30 frustrated farmers who felt overlooked regarding climate issues a decade ago. It has since expanded into a national organisation representing over 8,000 farmers dedicated to finding climate solutions.
Innovative Approaches to Sustainable Farming
Farmers are exploring various methods to reduce their carbon footprint, including carbon-neutral beef production and the installation of solar panels and battery systems. These renewable energy initiatives not only help lower emissions and costs but also provide a significant boost to farm incomes, enhance local economies, and pave the way for a fairer energy landscape.
