Man fined and companies suspended in solar fraud case
A man from Western Australia has been fined, and four companies have been suspended from participating in the federal rooftop solar rebate programme. This action was taken after the man was discovered to be working without a licence and using equipment that did not meet compliance standards.
Pierre Bosman was fined $15,000 by a Perth Magistrate’s Court for providing false information intentionally to generate small-scale technology certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). The investigation leading to his conviction was conducted by the Clean Energy Regulator in conjunction with the Australian Federal Police and the WA Department of Energy.
Non-Compliant Installations
The Clean Energy Regulator revealed that 94 solar PV installations overseen by an accredited installer did not comply with the WA Electrical (Licensing) Regulations 1991. These installations were deemed ineligible for STCs as they contained solar panels not approved by the Clean Energy Council. This discovery led to the permanent suspension of four companies from participating in the SRES: Super Chief Pty Ltd, MSquare Energy Pty Ltd, More Green Energy Pty Ltd, and More Tiles and Ceramic Pty Ltd.
The regulator emphasised its zero-tolerance policy towards fraudulent activities, stating that enforcement actions would be taken against those failing to meet their obligations under the Compliance, Education, and Enforcement Policy.
Enforcement Against Fraud
The Clean Energy Regulator, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, is committed to upholding the integrity of renewable energy schemes and ensuring that all participants adhere to the prescribed regulations. The recent case serves as a warning to individuals and companies engaging in deceptive practices within the renewable energy sector.
It is crucial for all stakeholders in the industry to operate ethically and transparently to maintain the credibility and effectiveness of government-backed initiatives promoting clean energy adoption.
