Construction firm locked in to deliver two big solar and battery projects in the Sunshine State

Construction Firm Chosen for Two Major Solar and Battery Projects in Queensland

Green Light for Queensland’s Solar and Battery Projects

Two significant solar and battery initiatives in Queensland are moving closer to realisation following the appointment of a local construction company as the preferred contractor.

This week, Edify Energy announced on LinkedIn that DT Infrastructure has been chosen as the preferred EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) contractor for both the Smoky Creek & Guthrie’s Gap and the Ganymirra & Majors Creek solar and storage projects.

Details of the Projects

The Smoky Creek & Guthrie’s Gap project will feature a 600-megawatt (MW) solar farm paired with 600 MW/2,400 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage, situated in Central Queensland, approximately 75 kilometres south of Rockhampton and 40 kilometres north of Biloela, on the traditional lands of the Gaangalu Nation people (GNP).

Similarly, the Ganymirra & Majors Creek project will comprise a 300 MW solar farm with an associated 300 MW/1,200 MWh energy storage facility in the Townsville region.

Impact on Clean Energy Generation

Together, Edify projects that these initiatives will produce nearly 2,500,000 MWh of clean energy annually, leading to a reduction of approximately 1.39 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Edify Energy’s CEO, Ben Warne, expressed pride in the pivotal role these large-scale projects will play in advancing an affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy future. He stated, “These projects will create significant jobs during construction, support local communities and industry, and assist in fulfilling Queensland’s energy system’s infrastructure demands, in line with the Queensland Energy Roadmap.”

Construction Timeline and Employment Opportunities

Pre-construction and design activities are currently underway for both projects, with formal construction anticipated to commence in the first half of the year. At peak construction, both projects are expected to jointly provide employment opportunities for over 1,200 individuals, which will include local contractors and recruits.

John Anderson, CEO of DTI, commented on the significance of the new partnership, stating, “This new partnership with Edify Energy is a great opportunity for DTI, as we continue to cement our standing as Australia’s leading renewables delivery partner. We are proud to be chosen as the preferred delivery partner for these two major renewable energy infrastructure projects, which will not only benefit local communities but also strengthen supply to the grid.”
