Solar and battery census launches in bid to unlock Australia’s next rooftop boom

Australia Launches C&I Solar Industry Census for Rooftop Insights

Launch of C&I Solar Industry Census by Orkestra Energy and SunWiz

This week, two prominent Australian renewable energy firms, Orkestra Energy and SunWiz, have unveiled the C&I Solar Industry Census, aimed at revealing essential insights and challenges within the commercial solar sector.

The Census represents the inaugural collaborative effort between the two companies, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership. It will involve surveying energy firms across Australia’s commercial and industrial (C&I) landscape to gather vital market insights, identify operational hurdles, and highlight emerging opportunities.

Collaboration for Comprehensive Insights

SunWiz, a leading consultancy in distributed solar and storage, alongside Orkestra Energy, a provider of clean energy software, aspire to leverage their combined expertise to produce a thorough industry report. This report aims to deliver actionable intelligence that will influence the future of commercial solar and battery installations throughout Australia.

Both organisations, based in Victoria, recognise the necessity for what they term “more granular, operationally-focused intelligence” tailored to Australia’s commercial solar market. This initiative will enhance SunWiz’s annual Australian PV and Battery reports.

Addressing Industry Gaps

“SunWiz has a longstanding tradition of offering crucial market insights to the solar sector through our reports and analyses, yet we’ve pinpointed a gap in understanding the operational challenges and customer dynamics unique to the C&I segment,” explained Warwick Johnston, founder of SunWiz.

“By merging our market intelligence capabilities with Orkestra’s expertise in evaluating commercial battery projects, we can develop a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the commercial solar industry. This collaboration will enable us to continue providing customer-centric tools and insights that promote increased solar and battery deployment.”

The Census aims to gather feedback from various stakeholders in the C&I sector, including solar installers, EPCs, energy retailers, consultants, and asset managers. This will help create a detailed overview of customer motivations, service adoption trends, operational deficiencies, business confidence levels, and potential growth avenues.

In addition to sharing their experiences and challenges, all participants in the C&I Solar Industry Census will receive a copy of the survey report, contributing to a valuable industry resource.

Excitement for Future Collaborations

“This census signifies an exciting milestone for our new partnership with SunWiz,” remarked Chris Cooper, co-CEO and co-founder of Orkestra Energy.

“As leaders in the industry, we are in a unique position to gain profound insights into the drivers of C&I solar. Orkestra provides us with unmatched visibility into project feasibility trends, equipment preferences, customer requirements, and optimisation strategies, while SunWiz contributes its established expertise and extensive knowledge of the Australian solar market.”

“This partnership is a natural fit – together, we can offer insights that will benefit the entire industry, and we are eager about the potential for further collaboration as we continue to foster the growth of the C&I solar and storage sector.”
