Solar in the centre aisle: Aldi goes national with ultra cheap PV and battery offer

Aldi Expands Affordable Solar and Battery Offer Nationwide

Aldi Expands Affordable Solar and Battery Packages Across Australia

The discount supermarket chain Aldi has broadened the reach of its budget-friendly rooftop solar and storage solutions throughout Australia, now available in select locations across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory.

Earlier this year, Aldi introduced its solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery offerings with a limited launch in Melbourne. This initial package featured a 6-kilowatt (kW) solar system, a 5 kW hybrid inverter, and a 5.1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, all for the price of $7,999, installation included.

Concerns Over Product Reliability

Despite the attractive pricing, there were concerns regarding the reliability of the system, especially considering that a typical 6.6 kW solar system with battery usually costs between $15,000 and $18,000. However, the pilot programme seems to have been successful enough for Aldi to roll out two new affordable solar and battery packages to selected postcodes in major metropolitan areas of NSW, Victoria, Queensland, and the ACT.

New Solar Packages Offered

The first package features a 6.6 kW solar array, a 5.5 kW hybrid inverter, and a 10 kWh battery with blackout protection, all for $6,999. The second package, priced at $8,499, includes the same solar and inverter setup but upgrades the battery to a 20-kWh capacity option.

Notably, unlike the usual discount items that Aldi is known for, which can disappear from shelves quickly, the Aldi Solar packages come with a 10-year warranty and a 25-year performance guarantee on the solar panels.

Partnership with Tempo

Aldi Solar is being implemented in collaboration with Tempo, a prominent supplier of consumer electronics. The first installations are anticipated to commence in early November.

Aldi asserts that its competitive pricing is made possible by the federal government’s battery rebate and its commitment to passing savings directly to customers. The company emphasises that customers can access larger battery capacities at lower prices without sacrificing quality.

Simplified Solar Transition

The transition to solar and storage has been streamlined through Aldi Solar’s online portal, which facilitates everything from roof suitability assessments to purchases and efficient installations by SAA certified installers.

“Expanding ALDI Solar to more Australians along the Eastern Seaboard is an exciting development for us, reinforcing our dedication to providing exceptional quality and affordability beyond just groceries,” stated Simon Padovani-Ginies, group director at Aldi Australia.

“In true Good Different style, and in partnership with our trusted partner Tempo, ALDI Solar offers remarkable value and simplifies the process of switching to solar for Australian households. With clear pricing, flexible battery options, installations by certified professionals, and an impressive payback period, ALDI Solar empowers households to take control of their energy expenses.”

Customers can verify their postcode eligibility and place a pre-order through the Aldi Solar website.
